July 4 Tom Sawyer Fence Painting Day
5 Workaholics Day
20 Ugly Truck Contest Day
25 Threading The Needle Day
27 Take Your Pants For A Walk Day
But for someone who knows that the ticker symbol for Cheesecake Factory, Inc. is CAKE, I'm celebrating National Cheesecake Day today, July 31.
No, I've never taken the Eli Cheesecake World "bekeray" (Bakery) Tour in Chicago. Can you imagine, this company makes 17,000 cheesecakes a day and each one is decorated by "hant" (hand)!
How many of you have seen Episode 157
(Season 7) of Friends? Titled, "The One With All The Cheesecakes," Chandler
is too
"
girik" (greedy) to share his half of the
cheesecake after Rachel drops her half.
And then there's the scene where Chandler
accidentally gets a cheesecake delivered
that was intended for another "dire"
(apartment). When he and Rachel start
eating it, they are unable to stop and refuse
to give it back. In fact, the cheesecake is so
"
batamt" (delicious/good), they take the
replacement delivery as well.
Today, in honor of the much-loved " farbaysn" (dessert), Junior's Restaurant gave away a free slice of its world-famous New York style cheesecake with every lunch and dinner entree.
And, of course, Jackie Mason, had much to say about this topic: "Did you ever go into a coffee shop in a real gentile neighborhood? Go to Wyoming and order a piece of cake. Did you ever see how small a piece of cake comes out? To a Jew, it would be a cookie. (Mason also complains about the cookies served at Starbucks: "At Starbucks, you're going to have to hire a detective to find that cookie, and it's $9.50. And you can't put butter on it because they want extra.)
Go to a place like Carnegie in New York. A piece of cake at the Carnegie is gigantic. Gentiles never saw cakes like that. They think it's a birthday party."
Well, in 2003, Jackie Mason launched his new cheesecake--Jackie Mason's Famous Broadway Cheesecake, produced by Rhoda's Best. It was among the hundreds of new products introduced for the first time at Kosherfest.
So, I bought one of Mason's frozen cheesecakes--lactose-free, dairy-free, and cholesterol-free. Sugars, 21 g, calories, 370 per serving (1/5 cake), total fat, 27 g.
The box contained the following "yedie" (message): "Here's how to make the world ("di velt") a happier place, and you, too: Did you ever see anyone who was miserable ("tsoredik") while eating cheesecake. No, it's not possible. So bring a cheesecake to people you're visiting even if they're not miserable, and you'll be making everyone happy ("gliklekh")."
Happy National Cheesecake Day!
