*The Yiddish words for "the fashion" are "di mode"

The headlines read:

. GIRLS WITH PEARLS

. ALMOST ALL FIRST LADIES OF OUR COUNTRY WORE PEARLS.

. BARBARA BUSH WORE A THREE-STRAND COLLAR OF FAUX PEARLS.

. MICHELLE OBAMA--A FIRST LADY FASHIONASTA-- WORE PEARLS IN COPENHAGEN.

. MICHELLE OBAMA & JILL BIDEN COORDINATE WITH PEARLS ON MONDAY.

. SARAH PALIN PANDERING BY WEARING JEWISH STAR OF DAVID?

. SARAH PALIN ARRIVED IN ISRAEL WEARING A STAR OF DAVID AROUND HER "KARK" (NECK)

. "HOW CAN YOU TELL IT'S PASSOVER? SARAH PALIN IS WEARING HER STAR OF DAVID NECKLACE"

"PALIN TRIES TO JOIN THE MISHPACHAH"

As we all know, Sarah Palin is NOT Jewish! Yet, during her "One Nation" bus tour, where she stopped in New York City and visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, she was seen wearing a Star of David. The former Alaska governor arrived in Israel, again wearing a Star of David. The chain generally marks the wearer as Jewish!

Is Sarah Palin a Philosemite or Judeophile? "Philo-Semitism (also spelled philosemitism) or Judeophilia is an interest in, "derekh-erets" (respect) for, and appreciation of the Jewish people, their historical significance and the positive impact of Judaism in the history of the western world, in particular, generally on the part of a gentile. It also includes the significance of Jewish "kultur" (culture) and the love of "altsding" (everything) Jewish.

Philo-Semitism has been the subject of a series of books and"zhurnal" (journal) articles, and has been met with a mixed "entfer" (response) among the Jewish community. Some warmly welcome it and argue that it must lead Jews to reconsider their identity. Others, reject philo-Semitism.

Carol Cott Gross of East Northport, Long Island (NY) wrote a letter to Newsday on 6/14/11, stating her strong opinion about Sarah Palin:

"First there were Internet rumors that Sarah Palin had Jewish roots. Next, she was sporting a hefty Star of David in the photo that accompanied "Tour de Palin" [News, June 2].

What's next? Will she shave her head and wear a wig, like an Orthodox Jewish woman, or have a "photo op" outside the Great Neck mikvah (ritual bath)? And who knows, the following week, she'll be inter- viewed with rosary beads in hand.

She's an ecumenical opportunist always ready for her close-up. I know I'm not alone in feeling unimpressed and unconvinced about her convictions."

And another Newsday reader, Norman Weitz of South Setauket, Long Island, wrote:

"With regard to your article showing Sarah Palin holding her hand over her heart as the national anthem is played, that is the Star of David around her neck.

Since when did she change religions?
Apparently, she came to New York seeking the Jewish vote. What chutzpah!" (nerve)

And, some American Jews like Rabbi Jeffrey Falick [The Athiest Rabbi] feel that Palin is merely interested in Israel for her own gain, unrelated to the best interests of Jews, Palestinians or anyone else in the region. Falick wishes she would take off the star.

According to David Brog, the (Jewish) executive director of Christians United for Israel, "it is increasingly common" for evangelical Christian supporters of Israel to wear Stars of David as symbols of solidarity with the Jewish state." To do so is being "pro-Israel" and "philosemetic."

Marjorie Wolfe's advice to Sarah Palin: "Stick to wearing pearls. All women adore pearls, ESPECIALLY THOSE IN THE PUBLIC EYE."
