As we make the transition from Purim to Passover, many Jewish sports stars are making their transitions on the sports playing fields. Here's what's been happening lately:
basketball Men's Basketball (NBA)--On March 20, Omri Casspi scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds as the Houston Rockets soared over Minnesota, 129-106, at home. On March 27, Casspi scored 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds as the Rockets helped the 76ers lose their 26th game in a row. to tie an NBA record for consecutive defeats. Casspi did not score any points in the Rockets' victories on March 22 and 29, and did not play in the game on March 24.
basketball Women's Basketball (Israeli Elite League)--Elitzur Ramle split the first two games of the best-of-five semi-final series against Maccabi Ramat Chen. Naama Shafir was held scoreless in both games. In the first game of the series, on March 24 in Ramle, she had 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 2 turnovers, as Ramle won, 64-59. Ramle lost the second game of the series at Ramat Chen, 58-64.
golf Women's Golf (LPGA)--Morgan Pressel had a 22nd place finish in the JTBC Founder's Cup. bolstered by a personal season-best 7-under par score of 65 in the first round. Morgan had a 72 in the second round, 67 in the third round, and another 72 in the final round of the event to finish with a 12 under par total of 276. Pressel has made the cut in all 5 events she has played in 2014, with 14 out of her 20 rounds under par, and a scoring average of 70.00. She has two top-10 finishes and YTD earnings of $139,188 as of March 23.
hockey Ice Hockey (NHL)--Calgary Flames' Mike Cammalleri had a 7-game scoring streak extending from March 10--22, in which he netted 8 goals and 5 assists. As of March 28, Cammalleri had 39 points (24 goals and 15 assists) in 57 games this season. His career total of 496 points (234 goals and 262 assists) in 663 games are the second best ever for a Jewish hockey player in the NHL, and he has scored more goals than any other Jewish NHL player in his career.
hockey Ice Hockey (Europe)--Playing for the Coventry Blaze of the British EIHL, Adam Henrich has 66 points (25 goals and 41 assists) and 144 penalty minutes in 46 games this season. His brother, Michael Henrich, has scored 51 points (17 goals and 34 assists) in 51 contests for the Blaze.
