Basketball (Israeli Elite League): Hapoel Jerusalem won their first ever league championship, defeating Hapoel Eilat in the two game series. In the first game, on June 22 in Eilat, Jerusalem coasted to an 80-65 victory, and Lior Eliyahu scored 12 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished off 7 assists for Jerusalem. In the second game, on June 25 in Jerusalem, Eliyahu scored 10 points to help Jerusalem seal their 88-68 victory before a packed house. |

Amateur Ten-pin Bowling: Izhak Dekel took first place honors in the singles event of the European Senior Bowling Championships held in Bologna, Italy June 20--26. Dekel led all 220 bowlers in the men's Group A division. He blasted the pins with a barrage of strikes and rolled a 279 in the fifth game of the 6-game block, averaging 229.17. Orna Karmazin averaged 182.17 for 18 games, bolstered by a 215 game, to finish in 6th place out of 96 bowlers in the women's Group B division, all-events. She then went on to take 3rd place in the 5-game round-robin finals. |
