As you all know by now, the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl on Feb. 1, 2015, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 28-24. The Pats Jewish squad includes 26 year old Nate Ebner, a 6'0" (1.83 Meters), 210 lb. (95 Kg) safety who plays on special teams, and also 28 year old Julian Edelman (Jewish father), a 5'10" (1.78 Meters), 200 lb. (91 Kg) wide receiver. The team owner, Robert Kraft, is also Jewish, and he has visited Israel at least a few times, and has donated a football field--the Kraft Stadium--in Jerusalem. | |
In another kind of bowl-ing, the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights women's ten-pin bowling team was in 1st place out of 12 teams after two days of competition in the Prairie View A & M Invitational tournament held in the National Bowling Stadium in Arlington, TX. The Knights maintained an 8-2 won-loss record, and Liat Vizenfeld helped her team by rolling games of 204, 211 and 236 along the way. | |
In amateur ten-pin bowling, your faithful writer rolled a 5-bagger in the second game of the evening in the Modi'in Sunday Night Bowling League at Planet Bowling in Rishon LeZion, and finished with a score of 207, his first deuce of the 2014-15 season. | |

Women's Basketball (Israeli Women's Elite League): On January 26, Shay Doron had 11 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists to help Sport Club Ashdod beat Elitzur Netanya in convincing style by a score of 71-53. Naama Shafir had 7 points and 6 assists for Elitzur Ramle, as they defeated Hapoel Petach Tikva 79-66. |

Women's Collegiate Ten-pin Bowling: Liat Vizenfeld helped the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights win the KU Golden Bear Invitational Title. The Knights finished in first place out of 27 teams in the event, with an 11-3 won-loss record. Their season record at the end of the event was 56-11. In the 6th Baker-format game, in which each bowler rolls two frames, Vizenfeld struck out in the final frame as FDU beat the University of Central Missouri, 201-196. She again struck out in the final frame of game 7, as FDU narrowly edged them, 247-246 in what was one of the most exciting matches of the tournament. FDU started off the prestigious Prairie View A & M Invitational, in Arlington TX in first place, leading a field of the top-10 Nationally ranked teams. Ice Hockey (NHL): On Jan. 31, Mike Cammalleri recorded a goal and an assist for the NJ Devils as they defeated the San Jose Sharks 5-2 in CA. He now has 23 points (16 goals and 7 assists) in 38 games this season. Jason Zucker, of the Minnesota Wild, has 16 goals and 5 assists in 44 games thus far this season. |

(AHL): The Binghamton (NY) Senators lost a pair of home games to the Norfolk Admirals on Jan. 30 and 31. In the first contest, Carter Camper recorded an assist for Binghamton, as they went down by a score of 3-5. The second game ended in a tie, and the Admirals won 2-1 in overtime. Camper now has 5 goals and 18 assists in 43 games for the season. |

(European Hockey): In his most recent game, Evan Kaufmann scored a pair of goals for the Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers of the German DEL. He now has 11 goals and 16 assists in 45 games on the season. Brett Sterling has 18 goals, 22 assists, 96 penalty minutes and a +19 rating through 40 games for Salzburg EC of the Austrian league. Jacob Micflikier has 16 goals and 19 assists in 43 contests for Linkopings HC of the Swedish Hockey League. |
