Men's Basketball (Israeli National Team): In a tournament held in Bamberg, Germany, Team Israel won 2 of 3 games, proving they are ready for their competition in the European Championships. Israel lost the first game to Russia, 75-82 despite 20 points by Omri Casspi. Yaniv Green (11) and Lior Eliyahu (10) also scored in double digits. Guy Panini and Gal Mekel also contributed to their effort. Israel defeated Germany in the second game, 91-84, bolstered by 17 point performances by Casspi and Eliyahu. Mekel (12), Green (10) and Yotam Halperin (10) also scored in double digits. Israel had no trouble defeating Latvia in the third game of the mini- tourmanent, 94-86. Casspi stepped it up a notch, scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Eliyahu scored 17, Mekel and Green each scored 15 points, and Halperin scored 11. Mekel also contributed 6 assists. Panini and Elisha Kadir also helped Israel with their consistent play on the court. Israel takes on Montenegro in Cyprus (because of the situation in Israel) in just a few days. |
