Basketball (NBA)--First a correction: The Dallas Mavericks had a 7-4 won-loss record going into the game against Houston on November 20, 2013. In the second "derby" of the season between the two Israelis' teams, the Houston Rockets had a considerable lead but fell apart in the 4th quarter, and lost to the host Dallas Mavericks, 123-120. splitting the series, one game apiece. This time, though, Dallas guard Gal Mekel did not play at all (coach's decision). Houston forward Omri Casspi was perfect for the night, making all 5 of his shots, including a three-pointer, for 11 points off the bench, in 15 minutes of playing time. The Mavs now have an 8-4 won-loss record and the Rockets have an 8-5 record this season.
Women's Collegiate (ten-pin) Bowling--Liat Vizenfeld, the first and only woman Israeli bowler to earn a college bowling scholarship, was named Fairleigh Dickinson University "Woman Athlete of the Week" for the second week of November, as she helped the Knights to a second place finish in UMES Hawks Classic, soundly defeating most of their opponents. FDU trounced Vanderbilt University 1043-841, just edged Delaware State 988-982, and beat Norfolk State 922-891. Liat rolled a 223, the second-highest game of the event for FDU.
Ice Hockey--Jewish Americans continue to conquer European hockey. Brett Sterling, who plays in the Swedish Hockey League, scored another goal for his team, HV71 Jonkoping, and he now has 10 points (6 goals and 4 assists) in 18 games this season. David Meckler is leading his team, Salzburg EC (Austrian Hockey League) in total points, with 25, and assists, with 17, this season. He is tied for second on his team with a +16 rating.
